Recognition for strengthening India–UK business ties and global leadership
New Delhi/London: Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Group, has been conferred an honorary knighthood by the United Kingdom in recognition of his significant contribution to strengthening business relations between India and the UK.
He has been awarded “The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (Civil Division)”, one of the UK’s distinguished honours that acknowledges exceptional service in fields such as business, culture and international relations. The recognition highlights his role in fostering closer economic and corporate ties between the two nations.
Chandrasekaran heads Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group, which oversees more than 100 operating firms with combined annual revenues exceeding $100 billion. Under his leadership, the group has continued to expand its global footprint and strengthen strategic partnerships.
He joined the board of Tata Sons in October 2016 and took over as Chairman in January 2017, becoming the first professional from outside the Tata family to lead the conglomerate. Prior to this, he served as CEO of Tata Consultancy Services from 2009 to 2017, where he played a key role in transforming it into one of the world’s leading IT services companies.
Apart from his corporate responsibilities, Chandrasekaran is actively involved in global business platforms and represents Indian industry in multiple international forums. He has been associated with bilateral economic initiatives involving countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Japan.
The honour reflects not only his individual achievements but also the growing importance of India–UK economic collaboration on the global stage.
