The renovated facility now boasts a spacious enhanced area of 150-square meter, complete with separate training centres for beginners and advanced players. Additionally, a 30 square meter office and library has been retained to cater to the administrative and research needs of the chess academy. To ensure optimal comfort and performance, the facility has been equipped with air conditioning units in both the beginner and advanced training centres. These units will create a pleasant and focused environment for players during intense training sessions. The renovation of the chess training facility is part of Tata Steel`s ongoing commitment to promoting sports and providing top-notch facilities to athletes. The training centre aims to nurture young chess talent and create a platform for Indian chess players to excel at the national and international level. The Chess Training Centre, in operation since 1989, has already trained over 4500 cadets. The Centre held significant tournaments like the Tata International Open Chess 1999 and 2003 and the Tata All India Open Prize Money Chess 1987 and 1994. The success of the Tata Steel Asian Junior Open and Girls Chess Championship 2023 and the All India FIDE Rated Special Abled Tata Steel Chess Championship 2024 showcased Jamshedpur’s transformation into an emerging sports hub.
