Jamshedpur: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Tatanagar, Potka’s JMM MLA Sanjib Sardar has raised a pressing demand for the fulfillment of a long-standing promise made to the residents of Bagbera. In 2014, then Home Minister Rajnath Singh assured thousands of families living on railway land in Bagbera that they would not be evicted and that the land would be leased to them. However, despite the promise, the third term of the Modi government has begun, and the residents are still waiting for action.
During a press briefing, Sardar reminded the Prime Minister of Rajnath Singh’s commitment, urging the government to immediately grant land leases to the long-established residents of Bagbera’s railway colonies. He emphasized that the people have been living in fear, with railway authorities bulldozing homes and threatening their livelihood. Sardar highlighted that instead of honoring the decade-old promise, the authorities have been displacing families, leaving thousands living in terror. Sardar called for a halt to these evictions and demanded that the Prime Minister personally intervene to ensure the residents’ rights are protected, stressing that this cannot be dismissed as a mere political slogan. He stated that if necessary, he would provide evidence of Rajnath Singh’s public promise. As a symbolic gesture, he also requested kiosks for displaced vendors to continue their trade, reminding the PM of his own humble beginnings selling tea at railway stations. The situation has become dire, with families on the brink of losing everything, and Sardar is pressing for the government to take swift action before further harm is done.
