Jamshedpur: In a press briefing led by SP City Rishabh Garg, details emerged about the recent robbery that took place on the night of September 9, 2024. The incident occurred around 8:00 PM when dry-fruit trader Manoj Kumar Aggarwal was returning home near Baradwari, after closing his shop. He was attacked by miscreants who snatched a bag filled with cash. The criminals swiftly fled the scene, taking different routes via the court road area. An investigation based on CCTV footage and witness statements by the Sitaramdera police led to the arrest of five individuals. Among those arrested was a former employee of the victim’s shop, Rahul Kumar, who had been working at the establishment for the past five months. Police revealed that Rahul had provided insider information about the trader’s routine and cash movements, enabling the robbery.
The main mastermind behind the operation was identified as Neeraj Kumar, who, along with his accomplices Akhilesh Kumar, Babu Prasad, and Sholay Kumar, executed the crime after a failed previous attempt due to heavy crowds. This time, they struck when they found a quiet moment. The stolen items recovered by the police include ₹2.22 lakh cash, three motorcycles, seven mobile phones, and two country-made guns. All five accused have been charged, and police ensured that the gang was dismantled before they could commit further crimes. This prompt police action has prevented what could have turned into a series of more sophisticated robberies, given the group’s planning and use of insider information.
